Aerospace users are constantly looking for systems that bring new capabilities that have the following qualities:
1. Robustness and Reliability
2. Well established technological maturity
3. Failure mechanisms based on graceful degradation
4. Significantly lower mass, size and power consumption
While MNT concepts such as the proposed advanced Nanolithography sensors certainly meet the requirements for reductions in mass, size and power consumption for aerospace systems, the technological maturity of these concepts is not very high. Therefore extensive effort needs to be expended in developing processes for establishing the requisite reliability and robustness for the individual technologies. The discussions in this session established the minimum aerospace.
