The Customers/End-Users for the proposed MNT Reliability and Testing company are both the system manufacturers and the ultimate aerospace systems users. These two communities have slightly different interests. While both communities are interested in characterizing the reliability and long-term performance of MNT systems, the aerospace user is more interested in maintenance and replacement cycles, while the vendor’s interests lie in minimizing recalls and having an edge over the competition.

Thus, the proposed MNT Reliability and Testing pilot project has to satisfy the following End-User Requirements:

  • Use a Design For Reliability approach which is fully integrated with the manufacturing and infusion process
  • Focus on long-term performance and low maintenance cycles
  • Have high safety margin for mission-critical systems
  • Develop robust reliability models and associated life-time prediction capabilities
  • Component versus System reliability trade-off optimization
  • Reliability testing protocol should include all aspects of the ultimate mission profile and environments (mechanical, radiation, thermal, power cycling etc.)
  • Have advanced testing and analysis tools and techniques that are compatible with MNT-based systems.
  • Have an organized system for the protection of IP and vendor-sensitive issues.
  • Maintain a continuously improving database of reliability testing data for a diverse set of MNT systems.
  • Collaborate effectively with academic or industrial research organizations working on MNT reliability.
