Maritime Research supporting NATO’s Operational and Transformation Requirements
- Small Satellite Systems highlighted at CANEUS CSSP
NATO’s requirements for Maritime Situational Awareness are among the issues to be
framed in the upcoming CANEUS Shared Small Satellite Workshop hosted by NURC.
As NATO’s New Strategic Concept take shape, the opportunities afforded by shared
small satellites may very well take center stage as part of the solution package
for the range of activities covered: counterinsurgency, stability operations, humanitarian
assistance, and counter piracy operations. No doubt NATO will continue to be involved
in unconventional complex operations that require both civilian and military partnerships.
About NURC:
One of three research and technology organisations in NATO, NURC conducts world
class maritime research in support of NATO's operational and transformation requirements.
Working together with NATO nations, NURC has the ability to conduct maritime and
undersea research from concept formulation to validation at sea with its exceptional
combination of expertise and steady rotation of staff from member nations.
About CANEUS:

“As the globe shrinks, the linkages that determine our collective well-being and
global security become more and more complex, or intertwined. Likewise, those linkages
are increasingly defined by the influence of non-military enterprises. In fact,
I believe that today, the next “big thing” is public-private collaboration.”
