Safety and Security

Improved communication in the world’s “unwired regions” can result in safer borders, coasts, oceans, deserts, and other areas of the globe. Moreover, increased ability to detect and monitor suspicious activity as well as share that information will enable collaboration and cooperation among international partners to enhance collective security. As such, attending representatives include delegates appointed by Admiral Oscar Adolfo Arce from the Argentinean Coast Guard, and delegates of Admiral Gonzales of the Chilean Navy, as well as representative from dozens of navies and coast guards from around the world.

Keynote speaker, Admiral Harry Ulrich, is considered to be “the man with the vision of cooperative security and capacity building.” As the pioneer of the Global Maritime Domain Awareness movement and chief architect of The Maritime Safety & Security Information System (MSSIS), ADM Ulrich will speak to the importance of the Shared Small Satellite project. Such a convergence of great leaders in safety and security will hopefully result in ground-breaking collaboration and achievements.

Environment

Environmental disasters result in high casualty rates that can be mitigated through collaborative study and preparation. A Shared Small Satellite network would allow members of the scientific, commercial, and defence communities to better study methods to mitigate risk through preparation and monitoring. CANEUS is proud to welcome participants from the environmental community such as Jamiat Nanteza from Makerere University in Uganda and Mr. Tomukum Chia from the Global Centre for Compliance, Hazards, and Disaster Management (GLOCECOHADIM).

Commercial

The commercial benefits of a Shared Small Satellite system have not escaped the notice of companies such as e-GEOS and Luxspace. Such a system will allow for increased surveillance in dangerous industries such as fisheries, one of the most dangerous commercial occupations in the United States and worldwide. Commercial potential in the satellite industry is rapidly increasing with demand for real-time data and better disaster forecasts.
