Dr. Winzer has 30 years experience in developing and transitioning materials into devices and into practice. He has developed electrostrictive ceramic materials and incorporated them into actuators for adaptive optics, active vibration control acoustic signature control and active sonar. For the past 10 years, he has been actively developing MEMS micromirrors for adaptive optics, and tailored materials for thermal control and nonlinear optics applications. Electrostrictive materials developed by Dr. Winzer and his team have been inserted into a prototype sonar system and extensively tested at sea. High speed deformable mirrors and MEMS devices are being transitioned into flight capable systems. Dr. Winzer Co-chairs the MEMS Technology Focus Group for Lockheed Martin Corporation and serves on the Nanotechnology Steering Group for Lockheed Martin.
