Dr. Servo is the founder and president of Dawnbreaker, a professional services firm specializing in commercialization assistance for advanced technology firms. Dawnbreaker is the originator of many of the SBIR Commercialization Assistance Programs and since 1990 has assisted over 3,000 small businesses to successfully commercialize government funded technology in both the Defense and private sectors. Cumulatively, these firms have received in excess of $1.5B in Phase III funding within 18-20 months of program completion. The Transition Assistance Program [TAP] conducted for the Department of the Navy, the NASA Glenn Infusion Assistance Program [a pilot]; the Phase I Commercialization Planning Program conducted for the National Science Foundation; and the Commercialization Assistance Program conducted for the US Department of Energy reflect the diversity of commercialization efforts Dawnbreaker has supported.
Within Dawnbreaker, Dr. Servo specializes in the design of programs for Federal and State Agencies and in assisting small, advanced technology firms with business planning, market research, strategic planning, and commercialization plans. She has personally worked with over 400 small businesses commercializing technology in fields as diverse as bioterrorism, genomics, software, sensors and photonics, telecommunication, medical instrumentation, resource recovery, imaging, and many others.
Dr. Servo is a prolific writer and has written extensively on the topic of innovation with articles appearing in the Futurist, Intrapreneurial Excellence, and Innovation in the Workplace. She is also the author on a series of three books on commercialization, including Business Planning for Scientists and Engineers (4th edition, 2005); Knock their Socks Off: Making Winning Presentations to Investors; and ATP’s Commercialization and Business Planning Guide (1999). She is well respected as a presenter and trainer.
From 1985-1988, Jenny worked as a full-time consultant to Kodak’s Office of Innovation where she was responsible for developing training programs for innovation facilitators. Dr. Servo was also responsible for monitoring various aspects of Kodak’s internal venturing process and providing recommendations on the training needs of new venture management teams.
