Objectives and Scope

The CANEUS 2009 Workshops will solidify the foundation that we laid in previous CANEUS conferences, with a focus on the matured Sector Consortia.

CANEUS 2009

The CANEUS 2009 Workshops are mandated to oversee the formation of international public/private partnerships within the aerospace community by fostering a collaborative environment aimed at the adoption, adaptation, and accelerated commercialization of micro and nano technologies.

• Provide participants and potential team members with an interactive in-depth assessment of current aerospace end-users needs and state-of-the-art micro and nano technology developments, in order to stimulate focused work on project concept definition and implementation;
• Led by CANEUS Sector Consortia Directors and with the active contributions of attendees, articulate focused definitions of technology infusion projects and create their implementation plans within each of the Sector Consortia;
• Facilitate public and private partnership by addressing challenges to collaborative innovation: issues such as Intellectual Property, funding mechanisms, Export Control, and other international collaboration regulations;
• Build upon the achievements of the CANEUS 2009 Workshops and the previous conferences held in 2002, 2004, and 2006 to establish a global aerospace collaboratory.

CANEUS 2006

The CANEUS 2006 Conference had the following objectives:

• Foster successful collaborations leading to the cost-effective transition of emerging MNT concepts to system-level application.
• Solidify the foundation that we laid in CANEUS 2004 by working toward the announcement of real partnerships, within regions and internationally, aimed at transitioning MNT to aerospace applications.

CANEUS 2004

The CANEUS 2004 Conference had the following objectives:

• Provide participants with a complete understanding of the process required to advance radically innovative MNT concepts through to aerospace system implementations of great commercial importance.
• Bring together aerospace MNT communities from Canada, Europe, the USA, and Asia and, in the context of proposed system-level projects (point 3 below), identify synergies of great potential value that result from the combining of complementary skills, expertise, techniques, and basic technologies.
• Select promising MNT concepts and develop plans for pilot programs to advance their maturity and bring them, perhaps in useful combination, to the system level.

CANEUS 2002

The CANEUS 2002 Workshop had the following objectives, which were met with a great measure of success:

• Assemble technical experts and programming decision makers from Canada, USA, Europe, and Asia.
• Foster research and development collaborations among the participating countries.
• Identify and discuss strategies for focused MNT investment for aerospace applications.
