MICRO AND NANOTECHNOLOGY DEVELOPERS AND AEROSPACE SYSTEMS BUYERS TO MEET AT CANEUS 2004

WASHINGTON, October 5, 2004 – The CANEUS 2004 Conference and Workshop, 1-5 November 2004, Hyatt Regency Monterey, Monterey, California, hosted by the CANEUS Organization and the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA), in partnership with the Centre for Large Space Structures and Systems (CLS3) and NASA, is the premier forum for leading, worldwide micro and nanotechnology (MNT) developers and government and private investors. The objective is to initiate pilot projects that will transform revolutionary concepts into high-performance systems to answer critical aerospace and defense needs.

The ambitious mission of CANEUS 2004, to bring together a representation of key stakeholders involved in MNT-based system development for aerospace, has attracted both industry and government involvement. Participants include Boeing, Lockheed Martin, GE Aircraft Engines, Airbus, BAE Systems, Hewlett Packard, EADS, Alcatel Space Industries, Goodrich, Motorola, NASA, the Air Force Research Laboratory, the U.S. Navy, the U.S. Army, the Department of Commerce, the National Institute of Standards and Technology, and the National Science Foundation.

CANEUS 2004 will provide attendees the opportunity to gain insight into all aspects of the technology development pipeline by interacting with international research institutions that are developing MNT materials and devices, companies that are developing MNT-based systems, and government and private sector organizations that are funding aerospace MNT research and fabrication. Consequently, attendees will also be able to get involved in the first-round of research, funding, and manufacturing opportunities of these pilot project prototypes from initial proof-of-principle to high-reliability products.

In addition to the conference, a tutorial series will be held 30-31 October 2004. Attendees can improve their understanding of some of the hot topics that will be discussed at the conference such as, reliability of MEMS and NEMS for space, planning and managing technology development, ITAR considerations, and intellectual property issues.
