  • CANEUS at the ESTEC-ESA 5th ESA Round Table on Micro/Nano Technologies for Space, held at ESTEC , Noordwijk, The Netherlands from 3-5 October, 2005.

Updated : Aug 19, 2005

  • CANEUS 2006 launched at the Paris Air Show, June 13-17, 2005.

Thanks to our CANEUS 2006 co-host CNRT, particularly Monsieur François Jouaillec, Executive Director of CNRT Aéronautique et Espace. Thanks also to CANEUS colleague Mr. Jeffrey L. Gray, Trade Commissioner Canadian Consulate General, Los Angeles, and Monsieur Guy Ladequis, Trade Commissioner (Aerospace, Defence & Security), The Canadian Embassy, Paris for the reception hosted by Canada’s Ambassador to France on Monday, June 13th. Please download the brochure for printing from http://www.caneus.org/downloads/Postcard.zip

  • CANEUS Pilot Projects presentation at the Sensors Expo in Chicago, June 7, 2005.

The CANEUS organization presentation, prepared for the Sensors Expo in Chicago, is available for your viewing online:  http://www.caneus.org/downloads/CANEUS_Presentation.ppt

  • CANEUS is preparing a NanoPicoSat initiative employing a systems-integration approach that can employ the best-suited subsystems for specific target missions.

Unlike current "proprietary" Micro-satellites where every subsystem is developed by the development team, the CANEUS approach will provide an open system environment and incorporate the best suited subsystems to optimize mission objectives for cost, time-to-market, performance and functionality. To take advantage of the learning curve effect, including lower cost and higher reliability, we are seeking to maximize possible user base from the space sector, military, environmental and communications communities.

CANEUS is now in the process of validating this unique approach in advance of a business plan. CANEUS’s NanoPicoSat initiative is available for your viewing in power-point presentation format http://www.caneus.org/downloads/CANEUSNanoPicoSat.ppt

  • CANEUS welcomes ASME as a partner for CANEUS 2006.

The proposed partnership with ASME will not only adds value to the 2006 CANEUS program in France but also in helping to spearhead the Concepts-to-Systems development for Micro-Nano-Technologies.

ASME's Center for Research and Technology Development (CRTD) facilitates the development and application of technology in areas of interest to ASME members and to the engineering profession by encouraging partnering between industry, government, and academia. The mission of the CRTD is to effectively plan and manage the collaborative research activities of ASME to meet the needs of the mechanical engineering profession as defined by the ASME members. http://www.asme.org/research/

ASME also has the structure in place to house self-sustaining units/Institutes - currently the Petroleum Institute (http://www.asme-ipti.org/) and IGTI - the International Gas Turbine Institute (http://www.asme.org/igti/).

We are very excited by the reach that ASME has and the resources it can command both at the corporate and the technical levels.

  • A CANEUS commercialization partner has expressed a strong interest in "Aircraft sensing systems".

Luxell Technologies Inc. is an aircraft supplier that manufactures EFIS and MEMS-based AHRS. Luxell understands the "Technology Readiness Gap" and it is prepared to spearhead a partnership in the development and production of MEMS devices and systems to meet specific requirements.

  • Dr. Thomas George will Chair the SPIE conference "Micro (MEMS) and Nanotechnologies for Space Applications" at the Defense and Security Symposium, April 17-21, 2006, Orlando, Florida.

Details on page 26 of the brochure: http://www.spie.org/conferences/calls/06/dss/ Dr. Thomas George will also present on "MEMS and Nanotechnology for Space Applications" at the Japanese Micromachining Conference

We would like to bring to your attention a Conference on "Micro (MEMS) and Nanotechnologies for Space Applications" being organized by one our own, Dr. Thomas George, as part of the SPIE Defense and Security Symposium, 1721 April 2006, at the Gaylord Palms Resort and Convention Center, Orlando (Kissimmee), Florida, USA. For further details, please see page 26 in the attached brochure. http://www.spie.org/conferences/calls/06/dss/

This conference is very synergistic with the aims of our own CANEUS conferences. Thomas urges us all participate in the SPIE conference by submitting abstracts before the deadline of October 3, 2005. Given the attractiveness of the location you may also want to consider combining the conference with a family vacation. Local attractions include: The Kennedy Space Center, Disneyworld, Epcot Center, Hot Air Balloon Rides and Swamp Boat Rides in the Everglades to look for Alligators.

  • CANEUS founding partner Ms. Judith Light Feather has received a request from the Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Los Angeles Center, for input from CANEUS colleagues to develop a course on Micro/NanoTechnology for Aerospace applications.   Nanotechnology GRP Questionnaire

ERAU is the largest aviation university in the world. Judith has been working with ERAU since 2000 in hopes that they would expand their science, research and engineering courses to include nanotechnology for space applications. The Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University would like to develop a course on Micro/NanoTechnology for Aerospace applications using the 60 hours of presentations from the CANEUS 2004 Conference. They would edit the presentations to provide students with an exciting introduction to nano-technology through either their e-learning matrix online, or in the classroom.

  • The 5th ESA Micro-Nano Technology Round Table will take place at ESA/ESTEC (The Netherlands) from 3- 5 October 2005.

The deadline for submitting an abstract is August 12, 2005. It can be submitted using the form on http://www.congrex.nl/05c12 or contact Laurent Marchand and Nicolas Saillen.

  • CANEUS will join International Trade Canada, with its Government of Canada Science and Technology (S&T) partners, to the 11th Technology Summit and Technology Platform 2005 being held in Bangalore and New Delhi, India, September 20 - 23, 2005
